- Regarding the Use of Local Language Notation
In this website, personal names, place names, and other proper nouns are generally rendered in katakana based on the local language. However, for names that are already widely recognized in Japanese—for instance, Rabindranath Tagore (which would be Robindronath Thakur in his native Bengali)—the commonly accepted Japanese forms are used. Additionally, in the diary transcription and similar entries, proper nouns may be modified and supplemented with annotations as needed, while the rest of the content remains faithful to the original text.
Japanese names are given in the Japanese order (family name first, given name second), unless otherwise noted.
Arai Kampo (Kampo as given name, though pen-name, Arai as family name). Also in the text, Arai Kampo appears frequently and therefore referred to simply as Kampo. - About the Footnotes
The annotations are based on the commentary in “Arai Kampo – The Man and His Works”, written by the late Professor Kazuo Azuma, Professor Emeritus of Reitaku University. Additions and revisions were made accordingly. Asterisks (*) in the text and notes indicate additions made by the transcriber.
